To begin with, the boy grew up in Glasgow, and was educated at Holyrood Secondary School, after which Boyle studied for a year at Aston University, but eventually graduated from the University of Sussex, majoring in English Literature.

Concerning his professional career, Boyle began his stand-up career in 1995 when he appeared in “The Stand Up Show”, and for the next several years performed at many festivals in the UK, in 1996 winning the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award. In 2002, he appeared in “The Live Floor Show”, with material he later used for Jimmy Carr’s television program “Distraction”, which was broadcast from 2003 onwards. Since 2005, Boyle has appeared regularly as a panel member in TV programs such as “Mock the Week” presented by Dara Ó Briain, in which he discusses the news weekly, and Jimmy Carrs’ show “8 Out of 10 Cats”. He also performs stand-up performances, such as his “The Voice of Black America” program at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006, and in the third season of “Live at the Apollo” in 2007, which was broadcast on the BBC, substantially boosting his net worth.

The style of Boyle is in any case pessimistic and controversial in general – he often comments that the world is under environmental threat, or that China is taking over the world. Frankie has had a number of comments too, about the swimmer Rebecca Adlington, about Richard Hammond after his car accident that caused temporary brain injuries, about the amount of money to be used to bury Margaret Thatcher. He has also made controversial comment about the royalty including the Queen Elizabeth II in the New Year’s tale and Princess Diana. From 2008 to 2009, he also wrote a column in the Scottish newspaper The Daily Record, but he gave up because he was forbidden to make jokes about Michael Jackson. He currently writes for The Sun newspaper.

Finally, in the personal life of the comedian, Boyle lives with his girlfriend – Shereen Taylor – in Glasgow, but also has a house in London in connection with the shorter travel time to work.

He has two children, a daughter and a son. He admits to being a recovered alcoholic and drug user, and is now a teetotaller.

  • [on David Bowie and Scottish independence] I completely respect Bowie’s right to express views on Independence, just as I’d respect Iggy Pop’s opinions on the CERN particle accelerator.

  • Did you see her boyfriend? He was really attractive. He was like a male model. So from that I have deduced that Rebecca Adlington is very dirty.
  • The thing that nobody really said about Rebecca Adlington is that she looks pretty weird. She looks like someone who’s looking at themselves in the back of a spoon.
  • I worry that Rebecca Adlington will have an unfair advantage in the swimming by possessing a dolphin’s face.
