Rishi attended Campion School in Mumbai, and after matriculating went to study at Mayo College located in Ajmer. One of his first films was the 1970’s “Mera Naam Joker” which was a film by his father Raj Kapoor. He was just a child in the film and he would go on to receive a National Film Award.

Kapoor then got his first lead role in the 1973 film “Bobby”, in which he appeared opposite Dimple Kapadia. The film proved very successful and it led to him appearing in a total of 51 solo hero films from 1973 to 2000. He would also star in 41 multi-hero films, not all of them successful, but some of the successful films proved to be highly popular, and increased his net worth significantly, with some of his most notable projects include “Laila Manju”, “Rafoo Chakkar”, “Honeymoon”, “Banjaran” and “Bol Radha Bol”. He has also been part of successful two-hero films, including “Badalta Rishtey”, “Saagar”, “Deewana”, and “Karoobaar”. Dad wanted to make a love story and he did not have money to cast superstar Rajesh Khanna in the film.So story was converted to a teenage love story and I was cast.
