Cocoa is a Newport News native, and she spent there her entire childhood. After finishing high school, she enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University, from which she obtained a BS degree in Mass Communications. She then furthered her education at the University of Phoenix, receiving a Masters in Secondary Education.

She found her first job at Feld Entertainment, based in Washington, DC area. However, soon enough she left her day job, and began pursuing a career in stand-up comedy. Little by little, Cocoa’s name started becoming better known in show business, and seven months into active pursuit for recognition in comedy, Cocoa won a Comedian of the Year award. Cocoa then joined Comedy Sportz, a DC based comedy sketch group, and started auditioning for screen roles. She made her debut in the short film “Blue Moon” in 2003, which was followed by several minor roles in such productions as the soap opera “The Young and the Restless” (2004), and TV drama series “Las Vegas” (2005). She continued with minor roles, and then in 2009 got the lead role in the drama “Dukes and the Duchess” (2009). Two years later, Cocoa was selected for the role of Jennifer in the TV series “For Better or Worse” (2011-2016), the role that celebrated her as an actress, while also increasing her net worth to a large degree.

Thanks to Cocoa’s increasing popularity, she nabbed the role of Lytia in the comedy “The Single Moms Club” (2014), and the following year appeared in the film “Ted 2”, which starred Mark Wahlberg, Set MacFarlane and Amanda Seyfried. Most recently, she featured in the drama “Chi Nu Legacy” (2017), and will appear in the romantic drama “The Other Side”, which is scheduled for release later this year.
