To begin with, the girl was raised on Bainbridge Island in Washington State, and studied at Sakai Intermediate School. At the age of 8 she began acting in local theatre, but when she was 14 the family moved to Los Angeles, California, and she continued her education at Burbank High School, but lost her father the following year; she subsequently legally changed her name to her father’s favourite for her. She admitted to being a victim of harassment for much of her schooling, an experience which encouraged her to focus on her dreams, rather than other people’s.

Concerning her professional career, Dove Cameron began acting by winning a recurring role in the television series “Shameless” in 2012, then played in an episode of “The Mentalist”. Afterwards, she joined the cast of the pilot for the new series “Liv and Maddie” (2013 – 2017), interpreting the twin sisters; the launch was a success from the first episode, which beat the record for the most watched launch. Moreover, Dove Cameron began her singing career in 2013, performing a cover of the song “On Top of the World” with the group Imagine Dragons – the song came out as a promotional single for “Liv and Maddie”, and quickly placed on the Billboard Kid Digital Songs Charts. Then she released the single “Better in Stereo” (2013) as a promotional single, which became number one on the Billboard Kid Digital Charts; her net worth was rising.

At the beginning of 2014, she landed her first television film role in “Cloud 9”, while also preparing her first studio album. In the middle of 2015, she created her film role in the independent action comedy “Secret Agency” alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba and Samuel L. In 2015, Dove Cameron announced that she had formed the duet The Girl and the Dreamcatcher, with her boyfriend of the time, actor and singer Ryan McCartan. Their first single “Written in the Stars” was released in 2015, and their first studio album was in preparation. The two had a YouTube channel in which they posted the covers of popular songs, but in 2016, McCartan announced the separation of the couple, leading to the end of the performing duo. Meantime, Dove played Amber Von Tussle in the film “Hairspray Live!”, then in 2017 created the role in the sequel “Descendants 2”, followed by releasing her first single as a solo artist – “Talks About”.
