Elizabeth grew up with her three sisters, stepfather Joseph Day Mitchell and mother Josephine Marian Mitchell in Dallas. She went to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, then enrolled at Stephens College, Missouri, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting degree in 1991. She furthered her studies at the British American Drama Academy.

Right after graduation she joined Dallas Theater Center, staying there for six years, then for a year at Encore Theater. She made her first stage appearance in 1992 in “Amateurs”, and during her career has featured in such stage productions as “Red Channels” (1994), “Three Tall Women” (1995), and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (2008).

Elizabeth’s first screen appearance was in the TV series “Dangerous Curves” (1993), then the following year she featured in the soap opera “Loving” (1994-1995), as Dinah Lee Mayberry.
