Gillian grew up in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and her family owned the Erie Brewing Company until it was eventually closed by her grandfather. At a young age, she started to study acting and took weekend classes at Pittsburgh Playhouse. She performed at the Pittsburgh Public Theater which eventually led to her first stage production in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, playing the role of Titania. She attended Mt. Lebanon High School and matriculated in 2000, then moved to New York City to attend the Juilliard School, graduating in 2004.
Jacobs’ first screen role came in the television series “The Book of Daniel”. She also had a role in the pilot of “Traveler”, and would later make guest appearances in “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” as well as “Fringe”. In 2006, she appeared in a production of “Cagelove” for which she earned praise for her performance despite negative reviews of the play overall. She continued to do theatre work, increasing her net worth over the next year, appearing in “A Feminine Ending”, and “The Little Flower of East Orange”. In 2009, she joined the cast of the comedy series “Community”, in which she plays the role of a high school dropout aspiring to become a psychologist. She also had more film opportunities during this period, including in “The Box”, “Gardens of the Night” and “Bad Milo!”, adding steadily to her net worth.
