Jean grew up in Boylston, Massachusetts and her father worked as a high school English teacher while her mother provided piano lessons. She attended Easton High School situated in Maryland, after which she enrolled at Columbia University graduating with a BA degree in English in 1994. However, before joining college, Jean had already garnered acting experience, appearing as Snow White in the original Broadway cast of Sondheim´s ¨Into the Woods.¨ She also appeared alongside John Candy in the film, ¨Uncle Buck¨ playing the role of Tia Russell and was able to earn loyal legions of fans globally. Jean also actively participated in college productions.
After college, she started gaining recognition through her roles in a series of television commercials for MCI long distance. In 1995, Jean was awarded the meaty role of Rowena Morgan in the movie, ¨Mr. Holland´s Opus,¨ then pinnacle moment in her career to date arrived when she was cast as Kim Warner in the TV sitcom, ¨Yes, Dear, ¨ in 2000, becoming a regular on the show from 2000 to 2006. From 2000 onwards, film role offers also started flooding in. She starred in the movie ¨Landfall ¨ in 2001, and ¨Little Red Light¨ in 2003.
Although acting is her forte, Kelly is also known to be an adept singer and dancer.
