Poppy Montgomery is one of six children born to Nicola nee Montgomery and Phil Donahue. Her mother was a market researcher and her father was a restaurateur. Montgomery never liked school, being expelled numerous times before she dropped out at 15, and it was then that she decided to pursue a career in acting.

She traveled around Bali with her boyfriend, meanwhile taking various acting gigs, before moving to Florida at the age of 18, but after five days taking a bus to Los Angeles to chase her dreams of becoming an actress. There, she stayed with some of her brother’s friends and sent head shots to various managers, including Bob McGowan, who had managed Julia Roberts in the past. This worked, and McGowan signed her and got her various roles in the late ‘90s, such as a role in the successful show “NYPD Blue” (1996). Her net worth was established.

Poppy went from role to role during the 90s, although nothing propelled her to real stardom. Her debut was in the TV series “Silk Stalkings” (1994), where she starred in one episode. She went on to act in two movies, “Justice on the Bayou” (1995) and “The Cold Equations” (1996), which were neither critical nor financial successes, so her first successful role was in the show “NYPD Blue” (1996), which caught the eye of many people in the industry, but it wasn’t until 2001 that her career really launched.

Poppy received her big break in 2001, when she was cast as Marilyn Monroe in the miniseries “Blonde” (2001), which led her to her biggest role to date as Samantha Spade in the popular show “Without a Trace” (2002-2009), garnering her critical acclaim and financial success, and is the main contributor to her net worth. Meantime, Poppy also secured lead roles in such films as “Million Dollar Murder” (2005), and “Between” (2005), which further increased her net worth. She went on to star in the biographical film “Magic Beyond Words” (2011) as J.K. Rowling, the author of the “Harry Potter” book series.

Her success in “Without a Trace” (2002-2009) led to her leading role in the CBS show “Unforgettable” (2011-2016), another success which and has earned Montgomery even more praise from critics, as well as a nice boost to her wealth. In 2015 she featured in the film “Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From Paris with Love”, and will appear in “First Born” (2016), and “A Surrogate`s Nightmare”, which will come out in 2017.

Regarding her personal life, Montgomery has been married to Shawn Sanford since 2014, and they have one child together. She also has a child with Adam Kaufman, whom she met on the set of “Without a Trace”. Montgomery is a dual citizen, of both Australia and the USA; she currently lives in New York City.
