Benson Henderson spent his childhood in Federal Way, Washington. At the age of nine, under the influence of his mother Benson began to take Tae Kwon Do lessons alongside his brother, soon after reaching black belt level. He went to Decatur High School, where he began wrestling for the school’s team, and upon matriculation in 2001, he continued both education and wrestling at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, from which he graduated with a double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice in 2006. He competed for the college wrestling teams, and thanks to his skills was named an NAIA All-American twice – in 2005 and 2006.

In the same year, Benson’s career turned professional, when he debuted in the match against Dan Gregary, defeating him. Although he lost his third fight against Rocky Johnson, he continued with success, and his seventh victory was over Diego Saraiva, a UFC veteran. In no time, he made his debut in the World Extreme Cage fighting at WEC 38, when he defeated Anthony Njokuani. Since then his career has only gone upwards, as well as his net worth. In 2009, Benson won the Interim WEC Lightweight Championship, when he finished the fight against Donal Cerrone with victory; he defended the title in the next two fights, but in a third against Anthony Pettis, he lost it in December of 2010.
