Jason Terry was born the second of ten children to Andrea Cheatham and Curtis Terry, and was raised in Seattle, where he attended Franklin High School, where he began playing basketball for the school’s team. After matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Arizona, where he continued his career in basketball. Thanks to his skills with his college team, he won an NCAA championship in 1997. He finished his college basketball career averaging 21.9 points.

Afterwards, Jason’s professional basketball career began in 1999, when he was selected as the 10th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Draft. In his first season, Jason averaged 19.7 points, and 4.3 assists in 82 games, which earned him selection into the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
