Marcelo continued his education in Massachusetts, USA, firstly at the University of Lowell, but he later transferred to nearby Bentley University, from which he graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and finance.
Marcelo then returned to Bolivia where his professional career began in the position of the international marketing manager for the Bolivian Football Federation. In 1995, he moved back to the States, and started working in USA Wireless – a small wireless retail firm which he inherited from the original owner. Within a year, Marcelo Claure managed to expand the business and sell the company. These ventures provided the basis for his later net worth.
However, Marcelo Claure has remained in the wireless industry, and in 1997 he founded Brightstar, a Miami-based company, focused on distribution and providing services of wireless communication, mainly to the Latin American market.
