Born to Casandra Deanne Rogers, and Charles Arthur Brown, Brene spent her childhood in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was raised as a Catholic, but later in her life left religion, only to return to the Catholic Church twenty years later. After finishing high school, Brene enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, earning her Bachelor of Social Work in 1995, whereupon she continued with master studies, and later earned her Ph.D. from the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston in 2002.

She remained at the University of Houston as a research professor, focusing on such topics as wholeheartedness in families and authentic leadership in schools, and organizations. On these subjects, Brene has written a number of books, the sales of which have significantly increased her net worth, while her articles have appeared in numerous publications, also adding to her reputation and bank account.

Furthermore, Brene has spoken of her research in “Super Soul Sunday”, and held a TED talk “The Power of Vulnerability”, which has become one of the top five most popular talks, with more than 30 million views.
