Gretchen Elizabeth Carlson is of Swedish descent, and came from Lutheran family as the daughter of Lee, a car dealership owner, and Karen Carlson. She attended Anoka High School in her hometown and matriculated in 1984 before enrolling at Stanford University, and graduating eith a Bachelor in Sociology degree. Gretchen was an excellent violinist during her childhood, and won at numerous local and national competitions.
