Gretchen Elizabeth Carlson is of Swedish descent, and came from Lutheran family as the daughter of Lee, a car dealership owner, and Karen Carlson. She attended Anoka High School in her hometown and matriculated in 1984 before enrolling at Stanford University, and graduating eith a Bachelor in Sociology degree. Gretchen was an excellent violinist during her childhood, and won at numerous local and national competitions. Carlson attended the Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colorado for five summers in a row.A talented and apparently beautiful young woman, Gretchen competed in the Miss America pageant, and won the title in her native state of Minnesota in 1988 before became Miss America in 1989, only one of three women from Minnesota to have won the title.Her career as a journalist started in the mid ’90’s when she worked for WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia as a political reporter, which only increased her net worth.
