Jason Garrett was raised with seven siblings by his father, Jim Garrett, and his mother, Jane Garrett. While he attended high school, he excelled in football, and parallel with that he trained basketball and baseball. After matriculation, he enrolled at Princeton University, where he decided to continue his football career in the college team. As his father worked as an assistant coach for college football, Jason transferred to Columbia University, and he studied there until his father decided to leave his job. After that, he returned to Princeton, from which he graduated with a BA degree in History in 1988. During his college days, Jason set the record for pass completion at the Princeton University, completing 366 of 550 passes, which is 66,5% completion percentage. He also won the Ivy Leaguer Player of the Year award.

His professional career as a player began in 1989, when he signed contract with the New Orleans Saints; however, he didn’t play a single game for the franchise, and in 1991 became a part of the San Antonio Raiders. In total, Jason spent his best years with the Dallas Cowboys, from 1993 until 1999, winning two Super Bowls, in 1993, and 1995.After the Cowboys, he played for the New York Giants, from 2000 to 2003, which also added to the overall size of his net worth, and also for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Miami Dolphins throughout the 2004 season.
