To begin with, the boy grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and was educated at The Miami Valley School. His family owned a restaurant entitled Mandarin Kitchen, and he used to help his parents. Then he studied at Phillips Academy, before graduating from Yale University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering. Following this, he graduated from Cornell University earning a Master’s degree in Hospitality, Marketing and Hotel Administration. Then, he enrolled into the school of culinary based in Le Cordon Bleu, Paris. While still a student, he played squash professionally, and when he studied in France, he took part in the European circuit. Tsai is fluent in four languages which include Mandarin Chinese, French, Spanish and English.

Concerning his professional career, he debuted in Sara Moulton’s cooking show. Then he launched his own cooking show, “East Meets West” (1998 – 2003) aired on the Food Network. In 1999, Ming won the Daytime Emmy Award as the Outstanding Service Show Host. Meanwhile, Tsai’s family opened their first family restaurant entitled Blue Ginger, which is based in Wellesley, Massachussetts, USA. It should be said that Tsai has written the following cookbooks “Simply Ming: One-Pot Meal”, “Simply Ming in Your Kitchen”, “Ming’s Master Recipes”, “Simply Ming” and “Blue Ginger”. Since 2003, he has been hosting his own cooking show “Simply Ming” broadcast on American Public Television.
