Sarah Ferguson Net Worth

Read more about Sarah Ferguson Biography

To begin with, Sarah is the second daughter of Ronald Ivor Ferguson and his first wife, Susan Mary Wright. She has an older sister, Juana Luisa, born in 1957. By birth she is a member of the British aristocracy, as many of her ancestors are directly related to the House of Stuart – by the line of her father, she is a descendant of King Charles II of England. Besides that, her maternal grandmother, Lady Marian Louisa Montagu Douglas Scott was a cousin of Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, the aunt of the current queen, Elizabeth II of the UK.

The romance between Sarah and Prince Andrew began after Diana, Princess of Wales, planned a meeting between the two in 1985. In early 1986, the couple was already engaged and married at Westminster Abbey in London on the 23rd July, 1986. The newlyweds received the titles of the Duke and Duchess of York, Earls of Inverness and barons Killyleagh. Around 1992, the marriage went through difficulties, possibly as Andrew was away from home performing his military duties, and Sarah was often seen in the company of other men, among whom the millionaire Steve Wyatt. In the middle of 1992, the Duke of York announced their separation, however, their problems continued, as photos of American financial manager John Bryan and Sarah were taken, in which he was sucking the feet of a topless Sarah; the Daily Mirror published them on the front page.

In 1996 the two divorced, apparently amicably. The relationship between Sarah and Queen Elizabeth II is cordial, although not so much with Prince Philip. Sarah avoids answering questions about the Royal Family in interviews. On the other hand, she participated in the funerals of the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Princess Diana of Wales, and attended numerous anniversary celebrations of British royalty. In 2006, Sarah and her daughters attended the event in which Prince Andrew was named Royal Knight of the Order of the Garter. Today, Sarah does not attract much attention. After her divorce, she started a new life working. These activities helped to pay her debts amassed in 1980s and the 1990s. Today, she is dedicated to literature, writing children’s books with great success.

Concerning her philanthropic efforts, Sarah Ferguson is patron and the former president of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. She is also spokesman for the SOS Children’s Villages. For the second consecutive year, she is the Ambassador Global RMHC (Ronald McDonald House Charities).

Quotes

  • [on being asked whether she and Prince Andrew might remarry] No. I think our fairy tale will end in the way we are now. He is the oak and I am the cypress. We grow to the light and encourage each other to grow, like Kahlil [Gibran] said in ‘The Prophet’.
  • I would like to act. I genuinely think it would be a good idea. I have enough experience of drama because that’s what my life has been.
  • Humility comes from understanding that the obstacles in front of you are not going to go away.
