Rose was born to Lithuanian parents, and stated that she had a hard time growing up as her father was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She also admitted being sexually and physically abused at a young age which left indelible consequences on her personality.  When she was five years old, Namajunas began training in Taekwondo and achieved her junior black belt four years later. She continued practicing karate and jiu-jitsu and expanded her martial arts skills by training to kick-box and in mixed martial arts in her teenage years, and at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts she was a senior-year wrestler. In 2010 Rose began competing as an amateur in MMA and trained at Minnesota Martial Arts Academy under Greg Nelson, racking up an unblemished amateur record. Her professional debut happened in January 2013 in a fight against Emily Kagan at Invicta FC 4, when she won and gained her first Submission of the Night bonus. Her second professional appearance was at Invicta FC 5 in April the same year, when she faced Kathina Catron and triumphed, plus getting her second Invicta Submission of the Night award, so boosting her net worth.

In December, she was signed by the UFC to compete in “The Ultimate Fighter” season 20. During the competition she fought Alex Chambers, Joanne Calderwood and Randa Markos amongst others. At The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned Finale Namajunas faced Carla Esparza to fight for the UFC Strawweight Championship, but lost the fight, however, she was awarded two season bonus awards for Performance of the Season and Fight of the Season. In October 2015 Rose won the fight against Angela Hill at UFC 192, then in December the same year she fought Paige VanZant at UFC Fight Night 80, and apart from winning the fight she also earned her first Performance of the Night bonus award. In 2016 and ‘17 Namajunas faced consecutively Tecia Torres, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Michelle Waterson and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, defeating the latter to become the new UFC Women’s Straw-weight Champion, also earning her second Performance of the Night bonus award.

When it comes to her most recent activity, she is expected to appear in a rematch against Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223 in April 2018.

Privately, Rose is married to her training partner, the former UFC heavyweight and kickboxer Pat Barr, who retired in 2013. In the world of MMA she is known under the nickname “Thug”.
