Sade initiated her musical career by joining the band “Pride” in which she was a backup singer. Her performance of the song “Smooth Operator” attracted the attention of many record companies in 1983, and Sade signed a deal with Epic Records, with her group adopting “Sade” as their name, and she along with Paul S. Denman, Andrew Hale and Stuart Matthewman followed the record deal with Epic Records by releasing their debut album “Diamond Life”. The album sold over six million copies becoming one of the top selling debut recordings in the ’80s. It became the top selling debut album with a female vocalist.

The band reached its peak success in the 1980s. Among the commercially successful songs “No Ordinary Love”, “Smooth Operator” and “Soldier of love” helped the band to build-up recognition, and to date, 110 million copies of their albums have been sold worldwide.
